Volunteer Eligibility: Service opportunities are open to all employees of Providence St. Joseph Health or partner organizations. The ideal team member would be someone who is committed, flexible, adaptable under challenging circumstances, and comfortable working with a diverse team on which all members are considered valuable peers. We prioritize caregivers who have been with the organization a minimum of one year. Candidates must have worked an average of 20 hours/week for the past 6 months. Moderate to high fitness level strongly advised. Please only apply if you are in good physical condition for long periods of walking, standing, and long bus rides through varied terrain. If you have concerns about the physical demands of any particular trip, please contact Global.Partnerships@Providence.org with questions.

Trip Requirements: Selected volunteers participate in 3 pre-trip orientation meetings, reflections in-country, and debrief gatherings following the trip. Additionally, volunteers are asked to pay $1000 of the travel and in-country costs to Guatemala or $500 for service in Mexico, fundraise for their service project, and use their PTO to participate. A limited number of scholarships are available to help off-set trip costs for caregivers with financial need.

For Caregivers who are part of the Providence St. Joseph Health System: If you experience illness, incident or injury while participating on a Volunteer Mission Trip please let your Core Leader and Sedgwick Claims Management Services know by submitting a report using the HR Portal as soon as possible.  After you make the report, Sedgwick will review the information and make a determination for any potential Workers’ Compensation coverage available to you under the applicable laws. As is the case with every Workers’ Compensation claim, coverage requirements vary by state, so reporting does not necessarily guarantee coverage for the illness, injury or incident that was reported.
